Paul Tuffy

Paul Tuffy, a County Sligo native and the managing director of Tuffy & Associates, an accounting and taxation firm located in Yonkers, New York, was one of 50 entrepreneurs from around the United States recognized April 15, 2011 at the Irish Small Business 50 Awards at The Manhattan Club at Rosie O’Grady’s.

Before establishing Tuffy & Associates in 2001, Tuffy worked at the Livingston, N.J., firm, McEnerney, Brady & Company, in the areas of corporate and individual taxation. He also served as an assistant vice president at Merrill Lynch & Company, specializing in partnership accounting and private equity funds. He began his accounting career with Silver Screen Partners/Chelsea Piers Sports & Entertainment Complex in New York City. In 1994 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Herbert H. Lehman College of the City University of New York. Met the requirements to become an enrolled agent with the Internal Revenue Service which demonstrates significant tax knowledge to represent his clients. Enrolled agents are granted unrestricted rights to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service, demonstrate special competence in tax matters, adhere to ethical standards, and are required to stay current with tax law and regulation by completing a minimum of continuing education annually.

Tuffy is the son of Paul and Bridie Tuffy of Culleens, County Sligo, Ireland. He has two siblings, Colette and Tom, who also live in Yonkers, and a younger sister, Deirdre, who resides in Ballymote, County Sligo. His advice to future entrepreneurs: “Pursue your dreams, accomplish one goal at a time, do a good job for all of your clients, and keep up to date with your paperwork.”

The Irish Small Business 50 Awards, sponsored by Tourism Ireland, honored the entrepreneurs and business leaders who form the backbone of the American economy. The inaugural event was organized by the Irish Echo newspaper. The honorees are companies and/or individuals who have displayed entrepreneurial excellence and traditional Irish-American determination to make their businesses succeed.

Tuffy is a current member of the New York State Society of Independent Accountants and a member of the National Conference of CPA Practitioners. In 2015 he was awarded the Club Appreciation Award by the Landsdown Bhoys for his work in acquiring the not-for-profit tax designation for the organization. In 2016 he was nominated First Vice President of the Irish Business Organization after holding the position of Treasurer in 2015. He currently resides in Bronxville, NY with his family.
